Multi-Gem Bombe Cocktail Ring in Platinum, Cabochon Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire and Diamond

An 11 carat oval cabochon emerald commands the center of this bombe-form cocktail ring, its polished dome showing color as a single unbroken field of green rather than faceted sparkle; the visual signature of cabochon-cut emerald. Three concentric rings of color surround it: first a halo of round brilliant diamonds, then a band of sapphires, then an outer ring of rubies, each row fanning outward in individually pronged settings that give the whole mount a layered, petal-like structure rather than a flat pavé surface. Twenty rubies (2.22 ct total), twenty-four sapphires (2.64 ct total), and sixteen diamonds (1.20 ct total, G color, VS-2 clarity) combine for a dense field of color and light around the central stone. The platinum and gold mount rises into a full bombe dome, giving the ring real height and presence on the hand. This kind of concentric, multi-gem halo construction is characteristic of 1960s cocktail rings, when scale and color combination were prized over restraint. At 23 grams, this is a substantial, statement-caliber piece. Excellent condition, no visible wear.
