Art Deco Diamond and Sapphire Platinum Filigree Dome Ring, Circa 1920s
SKU: RO.PP.2
Five diamonds step down the center of this ring in hexagonal bezels, each one framed in its own honeycomb cell so the column reads as a single unbroken line of brilliance rather than five separate stones. Dozens of smaller bead-set diamonds fill the surrounding hexagonal lattice, each cell holding its own tiny point of light and building the dome's overall sparkle from the ground up rather than concentrating it at the center. Two vertical bars of french cut sapphires flank the center column, their deep blue reading as hard, saturated color against the diamonds' white brilliance; a contrast Art Deco designers used specifically to sharpen the geometry of a piece. The ring rises into a full dome rather than sitting flat, giving the honeycomb pattern visible depth and curvature as it catches light from different angles. Pierced platinum galleries run beneath the stones, letting light through the piece rather than trapping it against a solid backing. Excellent condition; no visible chips, losses, or replaced stones.
