1950s Opal and Diamond Drop Pendant Necklace in 18K White Gold and Platinum

SKU: PO.PL.3

Two pear-shaped opal cabochons hang in sequence, each domed high enough that the play-of-color shifts visibly as the piece moves; blues and greens surfacing across the white body in irregular streaks rather than a fixed pattern. A close-set halo of round diamonds rings each opal, small enough to read as a bright edge rather than individual stones, which keeps the eye on the opal's color rather than the metalwork. The two-drop format was a deliberate mid-century device: it lets the pendant swing and catch light at two points instead of one as the wearer moves.
The chain carries its own bezel-set diamonds spaced along its length, so the sparkle continues past the pendant rather than stopping at it; a detail more common on fine 1950s platinum work than on later reproductions.
18K white gold and platinum, 14 grams. Two pear-shaped cabochon opals, approximately 8.50 total carats. 35 round brilliant diamonds in the halos, approximately 1.40 total carats, H–I color, SI1 clarity. Nine bezel-set diamonds on the 16-inch chain, approximately 0.35 total carats.
