Fluted Dome Bangle with Diamond Pavé in 18K Gold, circa 1970s
SKU: BO.HA.6
A bold hinged bangle from the era when gold was worn at its most sculptural. The domed band is carved into deep flutes that swell and taper around the wrist, broken on the diagonal by a single pavé panel of 36 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 1.25 carats, G-H color, VS1 clarity set running across the flutes like a band of light.
By the 1970s the restraint of the previous decade had given way to gold worn boldly and in quantity. Goldsmiths turned from ornament and gemstones toward the metal itself, working it into ribbed, fluted, and domed forms that relied on mass and surface for their effect. This bangle belongs squarely to that moment: the drama comes from the depth of the carving and the volume of gold, with the diamonds serving as a single bright accent rather than the subject.
At 21 millimeters wide and 59 grams, it is a substantial piece. The hinge opens with a safety catch, and the concealed clasp keeps the outer surface unbroken so the fluting runs continuously around the wrist. Stamped: 18K, 750.
