Edwardian Shell Cameo Brooch with Diamond Accent, 14K Gold Filigree

The multi-plane carving is what sets this piece apart from simpler cameo work: hair, florals, and jewelry each sit at a different depth, giving the profile real dimension rather than a flat silhouette. A pierced 14K white and yellow gold frame surrounds the shell in a scalloped border of foliate scrollwork, the two-tone metal picking up both the warm shell ground and the cool white highlights in the carving.
