Edwardian Shell Cameo Brooch with Diamond Accent, 14K Gold Filigree
SKU: BRO.CF.3
A finely carved shell cameo captures a Edwardian woman in profile, her upswept hair gathered with carved roses, a single blossom resting at her shoulder. She wears a carved necklace hung with a small diamond, set to catch light against the pale relief of her throat. The multi-plane carving is what sets this piece apart from simpler cameo work: hair, florals, and jewelry each sit at a different depth, giving the profile real dimension rather than a flat silhouette. A pierced 14K white and yellow gold frame surrounds the shell in a scalloped border of foliate scrollwork, the two-tone metal picking up both the warm shell ground and the cool white highlights in the carving. This is Edwardian-era work, from the 1910s-1920s, when cameo brooches were a staple of daytime dress rather than an occasional accessory. Excellent vintage condition, minimal wear, carving crisp with no chips or flattening. Stamped 14K on the frame.
