Mid-Century Black Opal & Diamond Platinum Ring, 5.77ct, Circa 1950s

SKU: RO.HA.70

A 5.77 carat oval cabochon black opal anchors this mid-century ring, its dark body tone giving way to flashes of vivid blue and green that shift and travel as the stone catches light — the signature "play-of-color" that separates fine black opal from ordinary material. Forty diamonds, a mix of round brilliants and straight baguettes totaling 1.41 carats in G-H color and VS2 clarity, form a dense halo around the opal, their bright white sparkle framing the stone's darker glow without overwhelming it. The platinum setting holds the opal high in a simple prong mount, letting light reach the stone from multiple angles which is mportant for a material that reveals its color through angle and movement rather than static brilliance. At 14 grams and sized for a 7, the ring wears substantially without excess bulk. Condition is excellent for its age: the platinum retains a bright, well-kept finish, and the opal shows no visible crazing, chips, or dulling; a genuine concern with opals this age that this stone has avoided.
