Vintage Kunzite and Diamond 18K Yellow Gold and Platinum Ring, circa 1960s
SKU: RO.BB.139
A 25.40-carat oval kunzite this size needs almost nothing else to carry a ring, and this one gets it: the stone sits high in simple platinum prongs, left to catch light on its own rather than being boxed in by a heavy bezel. Around it, a wide band of 18K yellow gold is worked into a dense, nubby sponge texture with countless small raised beads rather than a smooth surface — a hand-finishing technique that reads as warmth and weight against the stone's cool, glassy pink. A small spray of round diamonds set in platinum, shaped like leaves, breaks up one side of the gold surround, the only accent stone the design allows itself. The kunzite's pale, slightly violet-pink color shifts noticeably with the light source, a known trait of the stone rather than a flaw. Substantial in scale, the ring rises well off the finger.
Excellent vintage condition, the stone is clean and free of visible chips or cracks, gold texture shows only light wear consistent with age. Stamped 25.40, D0.25, PT900, K18. Size 8. Weighs 20.0 grams total.
