Fluted Diamond and 14K Yellow Gold Half-Hoop Earrings, Circa 1970s
SKU: EO.BB.70
Ridged bands of 14K yellow gold fan out in a chevron pattern across each earring, meeting at a diagonal center where pavé-set diamonds form a bright X against the gold. The ribbing catches light in sharp, directional lines, while the diamonds scatter it in every direction, giving the piece two distinct kinds of sparkle working against each other rather than one uniform sheen. A smaller triangle of pavé diamonds caps each earring at the top, echoing the X below and framing the design at both ends.
The combination of sculptural, high-polish gold and diamond pavé is a hallmark of 1970s jewelry design, when goldsmiths moved away from delicate filigree toward bolder, more architectural forms meant to read from across a room.
The earrings present in excellent condition, with bright polish throughout and no visible wear to the gold or looseness in the pavé setting. Stamped "14K," each earring measures 29 x 16mm, and the pair weighs 29 grams total, fitted with posts and backs.
