Art Deco Diamond and Pearl Platinum Pendant, Circa 1930s

SKU: PO.PL.1

A modified marquise silhouette frames this pendant's dense field of diamonds, with a single larger old European cut stone anchoring the center and ninety-five smaller old European and rose cut diamonds filling the surrounding pierced platinum lattice. Small cultured pearls are set throughout the open framework, their soft luster breaking up the diamonds' harder sparkle and adding visual texture to the negative space between the geometric lines. The pierced, lace-like construction is characteristic of the finest Art Deco platinum work, where hand-fabricated openwork let light pass through the piece rather than reflecting off a solid backing. Suspended from its own 18K white gold open-link chain, the pendant swings freely rather than sitting fixed, giving it movement against the body. Excellent condition; no visible chips, losses, or replaced stones.
