Victorian Gem-set Dragonfly Pendant/Brooch, Platinum and 18K Gold, Circa 1910
SKU: PO.BB.12
A square cushion-cut pink sapphire forms the dragonfly's body, bezel-set in gold at the center, with two round green garnets set as eyes above it. Four wings fan outward in openwork platinum, each one densely set with rose-cut, pear-cut, and transitional diamonds in graduated sizes with smaller stones toward the wingtips, larger ones nearer the body; so the sparkle intensifies toward the center the way a real dragonfly's wing catches light unevenly. The wings are wire-mounted on tremblant springs, moving independently with the wearer rather than sitting fixed, a hallmark of Victorian insect jewelry meant to mimic living movement. The piece functions as both pendant and brooch, and is currently strung on an 18K white gold S-link chain. The piece shows no visible wear, tarnish, or loose stones. Measuring to fit a 16-inch chain, weighing 17.5 grams total, set with one 2ct square cushion pink sapphire, two round green garnets totaling 0.20 carats, and 75 diamonds totaling 3.50 carats, J-K color, SI1 clarity.
