Black Opal & Diamond 18K White Gold Pendant, 4.5ct, 1950s

SKU: PO.BB.10

A pear-shaped cabochon black opal, 4.50 carats, commands this mid-century pendant, its dark body tone making the stone's play-of-color read with striking depth and saturation with vivid blues and greens shifting across the surface as it catches light. Nineteen round brilliant diamonds, 0.80 carats total in I-J color and VS1 clarity, frame the opal in a halo, their bright sparkle offsetting the stone's dark, glowing surface. The pendant suspends from an 18K white gold open link chain punctuated by black onyx beads, a design choice that echoes the opal's dark tone throughout the full length of the necklace rather than confining the color story to the pendant alone. At 16 inches long and 8.2 grams, this wears as a cohesive, well-considered whole rather than a pendant simply hung on a plain chain. Condition is excellent for its age: the white gold retains a bright, well-kept finish, and the opal shows no visible cracks or crazing.
