14K Yellow Gold Tubogas Necklace, Circa 1960s

SKU: N.CD.2

Tightly coiled ribs of 14K gold wrap the necklace in a continuous, flexible tube, the fine parallel ridges catching light in an unbroken band as it moves with the body rather than sitting rigid. The construction is entirely mechanical with no soldered links or seams visible; giving the necklace a smooth, almost liquid drape despite its substantial weight. A discreet cylindrical clasp at the center interrupts the coil only briefly, finished flush so the eye reads the piece as one continuous form rather than a chain with a closure. Tubogas construction became a signature technique of 1960s goldsmithing, prized for combining the flexibility of a woven material with the solid presence of cast gold. The necklace sits close to the base of the neck, its 10mm width and substantial weight giving it real physical presence without feeling stiff or unwieldy. Crafted in 14K yellow gold, this necklace measures 14.5 inches long and 10 millimeters wide, weighing 71 grams.
