Cabochon Blue Sapphire Ring with Diamond Pavé Shoulders, 14K Gold, Circa 1970s
SKU: RO.OG.9
A bezel-set oval cabochon sapphire anchors this ring, its smooth domed surface polished to hold color evenly rather than break it into facets. Diagonal rows of round brilliant diamonds flank the stone on both shoulders, the angled lines pulling the eye outward from the cabochon in a fan-like sweep rather than a static frame. Twenty-two diamonds in total give the shoulders a fine, continuous sparkle that contrasts with the sapphire's solid, unbroken blue. The bezel setting keeps the cabochon secure and flush against the hand, a practical choice suited to everyday wear. This kind of cabochon-and-pavé combination; a single colored stone set simply, with diamonds doing the decorative work around it; was a common, wearable format in 1970s gold jewelry.
Excellent vintage condition; no visible wear, damage, or loose stones in photographs. Stamped 14K. Size 6. Weighs 5 grams total.
