Mid-Century Diamond White Gold Pendant, Circa 1950s

An oval frame of pierced scrollwork opens into negative space behind two diamond quatrefoil clusters, each built from marquise-cut petals around a round brilliant center, stacked one above the other along the pendant's length. Diamond-set ribbon bows finish the top and back, each tied with a baguette-cut diamond at the knot, catching a flatter, more linear sparkle against the round and marquise brilliance surrounding it. The pierced gold background lets light pass through the piece rather than sitting behind it, a hallmark of 1950s work that favored openwork over solid metal grounds. The pendant hangs from a 14K white gold open-link "diamond by the yard" chain, ten round brilliant diamonds set at intervals along its length. Stamped 18K, 750.
