Lapis Lazuli and Diamond 18K Gold Cocktail Ring, Circa 1960s

SKU: RO.CA.1

A round cabochon of lapis lazuli, deep royal blue with fine natural pyrite flecking, sits domed at the center of this cocktail ring, its polished surface a solid field of color against the intricate goldwork surrounding it. Petal-shaped clusters of densely granulated 18K gold ring the stone, each cluster textured in tiny raised beads that catch light as a soft, matte shimmer rather than a polished gleam; hand-fabrication work, not cast detail. Between the gold petals, eight round brilliant diamonds sit in white gold settings, G color and bright, providing a cool contrast to the warm yellow gold and deep blue stone. The ring rises into a substantial domed profile, with a ribbed shank that continues the textural theme down to the finger. This kind of dense granulation combined with bold cabochon color is a hallmark of 1960s gold jewelry, when goldsmiths favored dimensional, tactile surface work. At 31 grams, this is a serious, substantial cocktail ring built to be the focal point of the hand. Excellent condition, no visible wear.
