Diamond-Set Rope Knot Drop Earrings, circa 1960s
SKU: EO.BA.1
A pair of 1960s drop earrings in 18K yellow gold, built from ribbed rope-twist links tied into knots at the top and again partway down, with a final ribbed link closing the drop. Diagonal bands of pavé-set diamonds cross each knot, so the diamonds read as accents wrapped around the gold rather than a separate decorative layer.
The rope-and-knot motif was a recurring device in 1960s Italian gold work, and pairing it with diamond-set bands at the joins was a common way to add sparkle without overwhelming the sculptural form. Italian hallmarks on the reverse.
Measuring 2 inches long, the earrings carry real weight at 37 grams for the pair, with 36 round diamonds totaling 0.50ct, G color and VS1 clarity. Fitted with clip backs.
