Diamond Pavé Swirl Teardrop Earclips, circa 1970s
SKU: EO.DO.1
A pair of 1970s earclips in 18K yellow gold, shaped as a teardrop built from polished gold ribs that curve into a swirl, crossed by diagonal bands of pavé-set diamonds. The diamonds catch light in a continuous sweep along the curve, while the polished gold between them stays smooth and reflective by contrast.
Pairing sculpted polished gold with diagonal pavé bands was a common device in 1970s jewelry, using the diamond placement to trace the movement of the gold form rather than sitting apart from it.
Measuring 26mm, the earrings carry 1.35ct of diamonds (G-H, VS2) across 40 stones, weighing 18.2 grams for the pair. Fitted with clip backs.
