Deep Pink Coral and Diamond Ring, 18K Yellow Gold, Circa 1970s

A single deep pink coral cabochon fills the center of this ring, its smooth polished dome carrying a rich, saturated color that natural coral in this tone has grown increasingly rare to source. Nineteen round brilliant diamonds circle the stone in a tight, even border, their bright white sparkle drawing a hard visual line between the coral's warm color and the surrounding gold. The diamonds sit close enough together that the halo reads as one continuous ring of light rather than individual points, giving the coral a clean, well-defined frame. High-polish 18K gold makes up the rest of the mounting, its plain surface deliberately understated so neither the color nor the sparkle has to compete with a busier setting. This kind of bold single-stone cocktail ring, built around a substantial cabochon with a simple diamond halo, was a signature look of 1970s colored-stone jewelry.
