Art Deco Platinum Sapphire, Onyx and Diamond Bar Pin, Circa 1920s
SKU: BRO.SK.3
Three rectangular-cut sapphires, totaling 0.30 carats, form the center of this Art Deco bar pin, their faceted surfaces throwing warm and cool flashes of light depending on the angle. Black sardonyx segments curve along either side of the sapphires, cut to sharp diamond points at the outer tips; the bold black-and-blue contrast typical of the period. Forty-six diamonds, a mix of old European, single, and rose cuts totaling 1.50 carats in H color and SI-1 clarity, trace the pin's length in a continuous line, their varied cut styles reflecting period piece-work where stones were set as cut rather than uniformly recut. Crafted in platinum with an 18K yellow gold pin mechanism (stamped 750), a standard period construction pairing platinum's strength on the visible face with gold's flexibility at the reverse. At 3 inches long and 6.5 grams, this is a substantial, wearable example of 1920s geometric design. Excellent condition, no visible wear.
