Balogh 18K Gold Ruby, Sapphire, and Turquoise Cabochon Bracelet, Circa 1960s

Clusters of hand-textured gold, each finished with a fine granular surface that catches light unevenly rather than reflecting it in a single sheet, link together into a wide, sculptural band. Set into each cluster is a single cabochon; turquoise, sapphire, or ruby in rotation; prong-held above the textured gold so the smooth, domed stone contrasts with the rough metal beneath it. Twenty-four stones of each color repeat across the bracelet in a loose, irregular color rhythm rather than a strict repeating pattern, giving the piece a lively, handmade character. This kind of nugget-textured gold paired with cabochon color was a signature approach of 1960s French goldsmithing, prioritizing tactile surface and saturated color over faceted sparkle. The bracelet is fully articulated, its linked clusters allowing it to drape naturally around the wrist despite its substantial scale.
