Art Deco Diamond Platinum Bracelet, 8.50 Carats, Circa 1920s

One hundred seventy-eight bead-set diamonds march across this platinum bracelet in tight, uninterrupted rows, catching light with the same rhythm from every angle. The transitional round cuts sit close enough that the metal nearly disappears beneath them, giving the bracelet the solid, unbroken sparkle collectors look for in fine Art Deco line work. Pierced geometric panels break the design at intervals, exposing openwork beneath the stones and lightening what would otherwise be a dense, continuous band. A baguette-set clasp closes the piece, its rectangular stones stepping down in size to frame the hinge. Platinum was the metal of choice for this kind of hand fabrication in the 1920s: strong enough to hold 178 stones in place with minimal metal, and hard enough to keep bead settings from wearing loose over a century of use.
