Textured 18K Gold Diamond Cluster Earclips, Circa 1960s
SKU: EO.OK.3
Ribbons of hand-textured 18K gold fold and overlap in a dense floral cluster, each petal-like segment finished with fine linear striations that catch light unevenly across the surface, giving the whole piece a soft, brushed glow rather than a hard polish. Twelve diamonds are tucked between the folds at irregular intervals, their placement following the natural gaps in the gold rather than a fixed pattern, so the sparkle reads as incidental rather than staged. The layered, ribbon-fold technique was a favorite of 1960s goldsmiths working in high relief, prized for the way it turned flat sheet gold into something sculptural and dimensional. Clip backs sit securely against the ear, letting the full dome of overlapping gold project forward. The diamonds total approximately 0.45 ct., G-H color and VS-2 clarity, set in 18K yellow gold measuring 35 millimeters in diameter and weighing 28 grams.
